With a first place for available funding and a second for early entrepreneurship, Canada has jumped three spots in a global cleantech ranking to hit the number 4 position. The 2017 Global Cleantech Innovation Index (GCII) was released this week by the Cleantech Group and WWF with support from other organizations.

There is one key message to take away from the various reports produced by Canada’s Ecofiscal Commission - carbon pricing must be the centerpiece of any action to fight reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The reason its many economists say is because it’s the most efficient and most cost-effective way to do it. Others say a well designed regulation can do exactly the same thing.

Terrestrial Energy, the developer of a Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) nuclear power plant, has kicked off a feasibility study to site the world’s first commerical IMSR plant at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL). The study is being conducted by CNL.

A new report from Wood Mackenzie indicates that there is a compelling case for the world’s largest oil and gas companies to invest more heavily in the renewable energy space.

A major energy rollout in Canada is set for September when Hectate Energy is expected to plug in two separate projects with a total capacity of 12.8 MW/52.8 MWh. The company’s latest push comes from a recent agreement with Powin Energy for the supply of battery energy storage modules and management software.
