CO2 Solutions Inc. has broadened its patent portfolio. The company, which is developing an enzyme-based carbon capture technology, was awarded three patents from the US Patent Office.

CO2 Solutions Inc. and Procede Group BV have agreed to extent their technology transfer deal. The agreement calls for the development of CO2 Solutions’ carbonic anhydrase enzymatic carbon capture technology.

International Performance Assessment Centre for Geologic Storage of Carbon Dioxide (IPAC-CO2 Research Inc.) and the CSA Group have published the world’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) standard, covering both Canada and the United States.

Mine waste rock has the potential to be a significant contributor for carbon storage, according to studies from a researcher at the University of British Columbia. With some processing, the left over rock has the ability to “fix” CO2, says mining engineer and geologist Michael Hitch.

Ongoing efforts to commercialize new large-scale carbon capture technologies got a shot in the arm late last month when the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corp. (CCEMC) contributed nearly $1.5 million to three separate projects.
