Raizen, a company using Iogen Corp.’s ethanol technology, has announced the commercial operation of a cellulosic ethanol production facility in Brazil. The $100-million biomass to ethanol expansion began a little more than year ago and is now slated to produce upwards of 40 million litres of biofuel annually.

Hydro-Québec, in conjunction with the Aquitaine Regional Council, has established SCE France, a subsidiary of the provincial Crown corp that will focus on the development electric mobility and energy storage technologies. It will also work in areas related to conservation.

GreenPower Motor Company Inc. has inked a letter of intent with AMC Transportation Services Inc. that could see the Vancouver-based electric bus maker sell up to 17 EV350 buses to organizations in Florida.

A project to bring electric buses to Winnipeg that started in 2011 has finally come to fruition with four Xcelsior battery-electric transit buses from New Flyer Industries Inc. began serving passengers along a 40-kilometre route from the airport to downtown core and back.

Ontario local distribution company PowerStream Corp. is on the fast track to demonstrating key elements of the electricity grid of the future. Its latest move is the installation of a level 3 fast electric vehicle charging station at its headquarters earlier this month. Not only will it offer free charging to local residents, it will begin to provide further data on how EVs can be used as a resource for the distribution system, otherwise known as Vehicle to Grid, or V2G.
