The United States Air Force is using innovative two-way electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure that will not only the Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB) to quickly “fill up” its fleet of EVs, but also provide grid services to the electric utility and grid operator. The system was designed by Princeton Power Systems.

A new report from WWF-Canada and Plug’n Drive says a growing number of Canadians are turning to electric vehicles as a transportation option, but adds that there are still significant challenges to overcome before EVs can be considered mainstream. Transportation rEVolution: Electric Vehicle Status Update 2014 points to lack of national purchase incentives and lagging charging station rollout as two main impediments.

IGPC Ethanol Inc. reached a significant milestone in its ethanol production. The Aylmer ON-based company has now produced more than one billion litres of ethanol since it began churning out the fuel alternative six years ago.

Enerkem Inc. inked two deals that show the Montreal-based company is making considerable strides in China. The first one is a memorandum of understand with Shanghai Environmental Group Co. Ltd. The second is an agreement to establish a partnership with Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute (SMDERI). Both deals are to develop waste-to-biofuels facilities in the country.

Methes Energies International Ltd., a biodiesel producer with a plant in Sarnia ON, has shipped about 500,000 gallons of the clean fuel to clients since September 1 or about 22 railcars full. For the rest of the year, however, the company won’t ink supply contracts.
