Venture capital financing in smart grid may be coming at the expense of similar types of investments for solar, according to a report from Mercom Capital Group LLC. With VC financing in smart grid at its highest in three years and solar in decline, the report, Smart Grid Funding and M&A 2010, suggests this might mean traditional VC model works better for smart grid plays than it does for solar.
