The Preston Meadows community in Cambridge ON is now the first pilot community to achieve full LEED Nieghbourhood Development (LEED-ND) in Canada. There are a number of key factors that determine the success of utility energy conservation programs, whether they be for natural gas or electricity. Among the most important are creating the conditions to get enough customers to participate and establishing the appropriate incentives to encourage energy reduction. An Opower webinar held earlier this month outlined, in its view, the four key elements required to ensure successful conservation initiatives.

Thermal Energy International Inc. keeps adding to a backlog of orders for its energy efficiency steam trap product. The Ottawa-based company announced today that a customer in the healthcare sector has placed a $520,000 order for more GEM steam traps, marking a third such order from this customer and the largest to date.

It’s been a busy week for Ontario local distribution company Hydro Ottawa. The electric utility for the Nation’s Capital first announced a new energy conservation pilot that relies on gaming methodology from Opower and then it unveiled the purchase of 10 run-of-river hydroelectric projects in Ontario and New York from Fortis Inc.
