Pattern Energy Group LP's nearly 185 MW Meikle Wind project is now fully operational in British Columbia. The addition of the project to the provincial grid increases BC’s installed wind energy capacity by more than one third.
The commissioning of the 18 MW Gunn’s Hill wind energy project in Oxford County in Ontario is significant in a number of ways. It’s the province’s largest and first community and Indigenous peoples owned wind development. As well, it was able to overcome opposition within the community to get built.
Data from GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) reveals the growth of solar energy in the US continues unabated. According to figures released contained in a soon-to-be-released report, more than 14,600 MW solar energy capacity was added in 2016 compared to nearly 7,500 MW in 2015.
Fengate Real Asset Investments has closed the acquisition of three solar farms. They were previously owned by Canadian Solar Inc. The projects are located in Sault Ste. Marie and have a combined capacity of nearly 60 MW.
Canada saw another stronger year of wind energy additions in 2016 with 702 MW being added in Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia through 21 projects coming online. The country has nearly 12,000 MW of wind capacity installed, enough to annual electricity needs of three million homes.
