The hype of the electric vehicle has been talked about for some time, but in reality, sales have been minimal at best. According to January 2015 figures from Green Car Reports, slightly more than 5,000 EVs were purchased in Canada in 2014 or about 0.3% of all new vehicle sales. If EV sales are to increase, automakers and dealers need a better understanding of who their best customer may be. Recently released data from Environics Research Group provides some insights on this front.
A new report from Pollution Probe suggests that Ottawa’s electricity grid is capable of supporting the charging requirements of more than 150,000 electric vehicles, provided Hydro Ottawa is proactive in managing how and when EVs are charged.
